As the Manager, Demand Planning, at The North West Company (NWC) you will support the Canadian Logistics & Supply Chain division. In your role you will perform demand analysis and forecasting, SKU performance monitoring, primary and secondary market research and report on the impact and effectiveness of COGS, bracket buying, and FOB. Your Role:

  • Support the development of functional area vision, direction, and strategy;
  • Lead national analytics and forecasting process & capabilities for Northern Canada Retail banner;
  • Provide accurate demand forecasts for Food & General Merchandise products in Canada to a wide variety of customers and markets;
  • Develop forecasting models, identify variances and recommend improvements to Category Managers during monthly reviews;
  • Lead monthly forecast driver meetings with cross-functional teams;
  • Construct simplified analytical models, while maintaining integrity of the underlying data and systematic structures;
  • Initiate and develop new analytical methods to facilitate management’s strategic decision making;
  • Derive insights and provide guidance on warehouse COGS;
  • Drive calculated fill rate recommendations for products and brands launch;
  • Collaborate and partner with internal teams to support NWC’s Inventory planning, monitoring KPI’s and recommend changes to achieve brand and sales goals;
  • Meet with executives, internal cross-functional team, and strategic partners to report on forecasting, supply management, and key performance metrics diagnostics; and
  • Partner with replenishment team and NCV to shape and influence selection of data architecture and platforms.
  • Communicate insightful and meaningful results to senior management. Ability to influence senior management and advise on strategic direction on a regular basis.
  • Provide strong leadership, hiring, and staff development skills, with the ability to motivate and engage individuals; and
  • Develop technical/behavioral competencies in analysts and/ or department staff through the design and execution of ongoing knowledge sharing and personal development initiatives.

 

Job Requirements

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related field;
  • 5+ years retail industry experience, demonstrated success in sales/marketing analysis, financial forecasting and market research planning and execution;
  • JDA, SQL or Oracle Business Intelligence or advanced business degree preferred;
  • Strong statistical background with extensive modeling experience would be an asset;
  • Prior people management experience;
  • Advanced understanding and implementation of complex demand forecast modeling;
  • Strategic analysis and planning capabilities;
  • Demonstrated understanding of market research and analytics methodology and best practices;
  • Excellent project management skills and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities;
  • Experience with communicating and negotiating with senior executive management; and
  • Track record of successful budget management with an understanding of expense budget planning and tracking.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams or work groups as well as direct reports;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple projects and direct reports simultaneously; and
  • Proven superior planning skills; anticipates and plans for alternative/unlikely scenarios.
