The Instructional Designer for the North West Company (NWC) uses standard instructional design methods and adult learning theory to develop learning materials for all banners and NWC corporate. Technical skills, soft skills, onboarding programs, MIT/ DMIT, and corporate training are all areas where the Instructional Designer will work with our team and partner with the business to build solutions that meet the needs of our very diverse learner audience.

Your Role:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of learning standards and brand at NWC;
  • Create appropriate and relevant blended learning experiences to support performance improvement;
  • Develop and implement strategies to measure and evaluate the impact of training initiatives to individual / team performance, as well as to overall business results;
  • Lendtechnicalexpertisetobusinesspartnersinthecreationanddevelopment of instructional documentation, user guides and other user content;
  • Maintain existing training programs and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Follow-up on completion, success, and transfer of knowledge;
  • Develop training on designated topics as well as creating participant and trainer manuals along with resources, tutorials, guides, etc;
  • Create and maintain tracking, revision, and approval documents for all training materials;
  • Align and update training with NWC style guide and learning standards;
  • Regularly monitor progress and/or effectiveness of training and implement changes based on feedback;
  • Develop and coordinate pilot testing of training materials; make recommendations based on findings;
  • Coordinate work with printing services to have training materials, job aids, etc. printed.; and
  • Develop tools for instructor-led and online workshops that may include development of reference guides, reference cards, and job aids.

 

Job Requirements

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to develop detailed instructional design documents that include learning objectives, content sequence, and evaluation methods.
  • Ability to use standard instructional design methods and adult learning theory to develop learning materials for face-to-face, self-study, and computer-based delivery.
  • Experience with Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or other rapid e-learning authoring tools strongly preferred.
  • Experience with learning management systems strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple proj- ects to completion in a timely and accurate manner and to prioritize, sched- ule, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong editing and quality reviewing skills for consistency, procedures, style, audience needs, and grammatical accuracy.
  • Flexibility, a growth mindset, and the ability to be integral part of a team strongly preferred.
